8:00 AM
Choose it when you want Muay Thai to be the day's first commitment rather than the event that divides your afternoon from dinner. PM Payu currently runs the group session for 90 minutes, so you are done at about 9:30 AM.
5:00 PM
Choose it when you already know you will use the morning for the beach, a boat departure or a long breakfast. The current 90-minute class finishes around 6:30 PM, so treat it as the start of your evening rather than a tiny pre-dinner add-on.
PM Payu is the cleanest real-world example because its current official schedule gives you the same simple choice every Monday to Saturday: 8:00 AM or 5:00 PM, 90 minutes, with beginners welcome and walk-ins accepted. The gym is in Bophut near Fisherman's Village. If your bigger question is still whether to learn or simply watch, start with our Muay Thai class vs fight-night guide. If you already know you want to train but are deciding how much coaching attention you need, use the separate private lesson vs group class guide.
The hidden cost is not the 90 minutes. It is what the class displaces.
If you have an early sea day, do not force a class in front of it. The same principle applies to any fixed pickup: your morning only has so much reliable space. Our hotel-location and tour-pickup guide explains why cross-island movement compounds faster than it looks. For point-to-point days without a bundled transfer, compare a private driver with separate taxis before assuming one short activity has no transport cost.
At PM Payu, the live schedule presents both 8 AM and 5 PM as group training and says beginners are welcome. But other current Samui gyms structure time differently. Yodyut runs 08:00–10:00 and 17:00–19:00 group sessions and explicitly says clinching is included in the evenings. Royal FightClub currently labels its 8:00 AM Muay Thai as all-levels while several 4:30 PM weekday sessions are beginner-level and later 5:30 PM sessions are intermediate. So if you switch gyms, re-check the exact session—not just the clock.
What the PM Payu training environment actually looks like
The current official gallery shows a roofed training space with a full ring, bag line, group stretching and pad work. That matters more than a generic beach-boxing photo: you can see the actual environment you are choosing. The operator's current first-visit guidance says a normal session includes a short warm-up, stretching, bag and pad work, technique, then clinching and light sparring. Gloves and shin pads are available to use.
For a first class, plan the hour after training before you plan the class
A first Muay Thai session is more pleasant when the next step is boring and easy. Do not book the 5 PM slot, finish at 6:30, then discover you expected yourself to be dressed for a 7 PM dinner across the island. Equally, do not book 8 AM if you know you hate early exercise and will arrive under-fed, rushed or annoyed that breakfast disappeared.
Morning has one practical edge for solo women: the exit is simpler
If you are training alone and staying outside Bophut, the 8 AM class gives you the easiest post-session sequence: leave the gym, get back to your hotel, shower and reset while the day is still wide open. The 5 PM session can still be the better choice, but only if you are comfortable with the return plan and with showing up to dinner later—or going back to your room first.
PM Payu places itself a few minutes' walk from Fisherman's Village and says taxi, Grab and scooter access is easy. That makes the 5 PM slot unusually workable if you are already staying around Bophut. If you are choosing a base, compare Bophut vs Maenam, Bophut vs Choeng Mon or Bangrak vs Bophut on their own merits; one gym session should not redesign the whole trip.
Rain is less important than road friction
The current PM Payu images show a roofed training environment, so this is not the same weather gamble as a sea activity. But getting to and from the gym is still an island transport problem. If rain is building, the sensible adjustment is usually to make the ride more predictable—not to pretend the class itself is automatically cancelled. Confirm directly with the gym if conditions are poor.
If you want a deliberately low-friction backup day instead, our rainy-day cooking class vs spa guide solves a different decision. If your body is telling you that training was enough for one day, compare a simple massage with a full spa day rather than stacking another strenuous activity.
Use this six-scenario rule
| Your day | Better slot | Why |
|---|---|---|
| First-ever Muay Thai class, no fixed morning tour | 8 AM | You finish early enough to recover without your first class taking over the evening. |
| Boat/beach morning already matters | 5 PM | The class becomes the day's second chapter rather than competing with an early departure. |
| Dinner reservation or nightlife is important | 8 AM | You avoid turning a 90-minute workout into a rushed shower-and-transfer problem. |
| Staying walkable around Fisherman's Village | 5 PM is easier | The short return makes the evening slot much less disruptive. |
| Staying far from Bophut with no transport plan | 8 AM | A daytime return is easier to absorb into the schedule; solve transport before choosing 5 PM. |
| You care about a specific drill such as clinching | Ask the gym | Other Samui gyms show that class content and level can change by time, so the clock alone is not enough. |
Why there is no GetYourGuide class button here
GetYourGuide is usually our first marketplace check for a bookable experience. On 12 August 2026, its current Surat Thani Muay Thai experience inventory was showing Koh Samui stadium tickets rather than a clearly live PM Payu morning/evening group-class product. Forcing a stadium ticket into a training decision would be the wrong transaction. If you actually want to watch a bout, compare Phetch Buncha vs Samui International Stadium or decide whether ringside is worth it at Phetch Buncha.
For this exact training decision, the cleaner handoff is the gym's current official schedule. Check the session again before you travel because class times can change.
Check PM Payu's current 8 AM / 5 PM group schedule
The official page currently lists Monday–Saturday group training at 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, 90 minutes, beginners welcome, with walk-ins accepted. Re-check the live schedule before setting your day around it.

Book 8 AM if this is your first Muay Thai class and your morning is otherwise free. Book 5 PM if preserving the morning matters more than preserving dinner. At PM Payu, both are current group-class options. The useful difference is what each time does to the rest of your holiday—not a myth that one session is automatically more authentic.
