22 things to do in Phuket — and which ones are actually worth your time

1. Walk Phuket Old Town before you decide Phuket is only about beaches

The Tourism Authority of Thailand highlights the historic streets around Thalang, Dibuk, Phang Nga, Yaowarat, Krabi and Soi Romanee for their Sino-European shophouses, museums, street art, cafés and local food. This is one of the easiest Phuket experiences to recommend because the value is not tied to a ticket: you can make it a short morning, a long lunch or a full evening depending on the heat and your energy.

2. Visit the Sunday Lat Yai market only if Sunday actually fits your route

TAT notes that Old Phuket Town hosts its Sunday market, commonly called Lat Yai. 6. Use Karon Viewpoint when you want the panorama without waiting for sunset

Karon Viewpoint is a better fit than Promthep when the goal is a quick visual stop rather than a sunset event. It works especially well if you are already based around Kata or Karon. I would not cross the island only for this viewpoint, but it is a sensible link in a south-Phuket loop.

7. Spend a beach day at Nai Harn or Ya Nui if you want the south to feel slower

Nai Harn gives you a more relaxed beach day than Patong, while small Ya Nui is useful if you prefer a compact cove and are already touring the south. Sea conditions matter more than reputation: Phuket’s west and south-facing beaches can change quickly during the monsoon period, so flags and local warnings beat a generic “best beach” list.
