The decision in one sentence
Blue Ribbon is worth paying for when you are buying useful waiting time, not simply access. Bangkok Airways currently sells the Samui upgrade for THB 950 per person per visit, and its e-voucher terms cap a paid visit at three hours. If you will realistically sit there for only 30–60 minutes before boarding, the value equation is weak; if you have 90 minutes or more and will actually eat, work, cool down or reset, it becomes much easier to justify.
The 90-minute line is my editorial rule of thumb, not an airline rule. The official voucher allows up to three hours.
Start with the airport moment you are actually buying
You arrive hot and early
You have left the beach, changed hurriedly, dragged a cabin bag through the terminal and now have a long wait. A quieter air-conditioned room and a hot meal can feel meaningfully different from simply finding another place to sit.
You clear security close to boarding
Your flight is moving normally and the gate is already active. This is the classic case where paying for lounge access can become an expensive 40-minute snack.
You need to get something done
Bangkok Airways lists Wi-Fi and hot meals at the Samui Blue Ribbon lounges. The international lounge also lists a computer. If you have a work call, a battery-sensitive travel day or simply need a controlled place to regroup, the utility is less about luxury and more about reducing friction.
What are you actually getting over Courtesy Corner?
For Bangkok Airways economy passengers, the important comparison is not “lounge versus nothing.” Bangkok Airways' current Samui Airport guide says economy passengers can use the Courtesy Corner for complimentary light refreshments. The domestic Courtesy Corner sits between Gates 1 and 2 and currently lists free Wi-Fi; the international Courtesy Corner is at Gate 7 and currently lists Wi-Fi, a computer and reading material.
Blue Ribbon is the step up when you want a more complete waiting environment. The current domestic Blue Ribbon page lists free Wi-Fi and hot meals; the international page lists Wi-Fi, a computer, newspapers and magazines, and hot meals. I would not buy it because the word “lounge” sounds premium. I would buy it only when those differences solve a problem you expect to have.
Domestic and international departures are two different lanes
Bangkok Airways domestic: easiest direct-upgrade case
The current domestic Blue Ribbon lounge is next to Domestic Departure Gate 2 and lists service from 04:30 to 22:00. Bangkok Airways currently offers the paid lounge upgrade through its booking flow or Manage Booking, at check-in, via its call centre, or at the lounge itself.
The airline's current e-voucher terms are more important than the marketing: the THB 950 upgrade is for a passenger departing on a Bangkok Airways flight, requires a valid departing boarding pass, allows up to three hours and is one-time admission.
International: verify the access route you are buying
The current airline page puts the international Blue Ribbon lounge next to immigration at Gate 6 and lists 04:30–22:00 service. Separately, GetYourGuide currently sells product 1057801 through Dragonpass Group, with a three-hour duration and a meeting point airside at Gate 6 after passport control and security.
Those are not reasons to assume every access channel has identical eligibility, cancellation or airline rules. Read the terms attached to the exact product you use.
Use your real airside wait, not your hotel checkout time
A lounge decision starts after you have reached the airport, checked in, cleared the relevant controls and can actually use the space. That is why a 14:00 hotel checkout for an 18:00 flight does not automatically create four hours of lounge value.
About 45 minutes
Skip the paid upgrade. Use Courtesy Corner, refill, message home, check your gate and let boarding happen. You will spend too much of the visit orienting yourself.
About 90 minutes
This is the real decision zone. Pay if you want a hot meal, focused work time or a deliberate decompression block. Skip if you are happy with light refreshments and the terminal.
Two hours or more
The upgrade becomes easier to defend. You have enough time to sit, eat and still leave the lounge without feeling that you bought access only to watch the boarding screen.

The female-traveler practical test: what will feel annoying at 7pm?
- Carry-on and valuables: keep passport, phone, wallet and boarding documents with you even if you settle into a comfortable seat. A lounge is not a reason to mentally check out of airport habits.
- Wet hair or beach clothes: do not assume Samui's specific lounge has a shower just because Bangkok Airways lists showers as a general Blue Ribbon feature at some locations. The current Samui-specific pages do not list one, so plan to change at your hotel or elsewhere if that matters.
- Solo travel: a lounge can be disproportionately useful if you do not want to repeatedly abandon a gate seat to find food, charge devices or reorganize your bag. That is a convenience argument, not a safety claim.
- Late departure: both Samui Blue Ribbon pages currently list 22:00 closing. If your flight or delay pushes beyond that, do not build the decision around indefinite lounge access.
There is one hours discrepancy worth knowing
Bangkok Airways' current dedicated Samui Blue Ribbon pages list 04:30–22:00 for both domestic and international lounges. A Bangkok Airways 2025 Blue Ribbon article still shows 05:00–22:00 for Samui. I would use the newer dedicated lounge pages as the controlling reference and re-check on your travel date if you are relying on a very early entry.
The Courtesy Corner pages currently list 05:00–22:00, although Bangkok Airways' general Samui Airport page has slightly different summary wording. Again, this is not something to solve by guessing at 04:45 on departure morning.
Which access route should you use?
Flying Bangkok Airways and simply want the upgrade? The cleanest reference is Bangkok Airways' own Samui Blue Ribbon page and its current THB 950 voucher terms. Looking at the marketplace product for international departures? GetYourGuide product 1057801 currently routes to Gate 6 after passport control/security and says no reservation is required, but capacity can still matter. Check the exact live product terms before relying on it.
