The official show currently runs for about 50 minutes. You are not paying more for extra performance time. The seat premium is about where you sit, how close the dolphins appear and how much you care about the front-row experience.
The price jump is larger than the show difference
The Pattaya Dolphinarium’s current official foreign-visitor rates are straightforward: 700 THB Regular, 900 THB Deluxe and 1,200 THB VIP for adults. Children between 80 cm and 120 cm are currently 500, 700 and 900 THB respectively. Children under 80 cm can enter free with an adult but do not receive their own seat.
That means an adult pays 200 baht to move from Regular to Deluxe, then another 300 baht to move from Deluxe to VIP. From Regular to VIP, the premium is 500 baht — roughly 71% more than the base adult ticket.
I would ask one question before paying: will being closer materially improve this experience for you? If the answer is no, the Regular seat already buys the same scheduled dolphin and seal show.
What does VIP actually buy?
The official site describes VIP as the first row and specifically warns that guests in the first or second row should be prepared to get wet. Free rain ponchos are provided.
That can be fun if you are taking children who will enjoy the splash, or if you specifically want the closest possible view. It can be annoying if you have styled hair, a handbag with electronics, shoes you do not want wet or another booking immediately afterward.
For two adults, the jump from two Regular seats to two VIP seats is 1,000 baht. I would not spend that automatically. The show is still roughly 50 minutes long. I would rather use the difference for direct transport or another activity unless front-row proximity is genuinely part of the purchase.
Deluxe is the sensible middle option for families who care about view
Deluxe is easier to justify than VIP when parents want a closer view for children but do not care about being in the first row. The adult premium over Regular is only 200 baht, so the upgrade is less punishing across a small family.
That said, do not confuse “closer” with “essential.” The venue is built around a central show pool. A Regular ticket is not an obstructed-view bargain seat in a giant stadium. If your child will be happy simply seeing the dolphins perform, Regular keeps the outing much better value.
Which show time is easiest to fit into a Pattaya day?
The current official schedule is 11:00, 14:00 and 17:00, with the venue closed on Wednesday. The official ticket system currently lists the show runtime as 50 minutes.
I like the 14:00 slot when you want to use the hottest part of the day indoors. It leaves the morning for the beach or sightseeing, then gives you time to return to central Pattaya before dinner.
The 17:00 slot works when the dolphinarium is an end-of-day activity, but only if your evening is not already crowded with a cabaret, Muay Thai or dinner reservation. The 11:00 show is easiest for families who want the attraction done before the afternoon gets tiring.
The operator asks visitors to arrive 30–45 minutes before showtime. That buffer matters. A 14:00 ticket is not really a 14:00 commitment if you should be at the venue around 13:15–13:30.
How difficult is the location from central Pattaya?
Pattaya Dolphinarium is in Nong Prue rather than directly on the central Beach Road strip. The official address is 555/5 Moo 1, Nong Prue, Bang Lamung, Chonburi, near the Bangkok–Pattaya Motorway.
The operator markets the venue as only a short drive from North and Central Pattaya, but I would not build a tight schedule around a promotional drive-time claim. Pattaya traffic and your exact hotel zone matter more than the raw road distance.
For most visitors, a direct app-based car or pre-arranged transfer is the cleanest solution. This is not an attraction where I would wear a nice dress, carry a handbag and then piece together multiple local transport changes just to save a small amount.

Is it a good rainy-day choice?
Better than an outdoor garden or beach plan, but not perfectly weather-proof in the way a mall museum is. The show pool and audience area are covered, so a normal shower does not destroy the activity. The bigger issue is getting to and from the venue in heavy rain.
If rain is the only reason you are considering the dolphinarium, compare it with a more central indoor option such as Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Pattaya or Art in Paradise Pattaya. Those create less transport exposure when the weather itself is the problem.
What about swimming with dolphins?
The operator currently advertises separate swimming sessions at 12:00, 15:00 and 18:00. That is not part of the standard seat decision and I would not treat it as an automatic upgrade.
First, it is a different product with a much higher commitment and different rules. Second, some travellers are comfortable watching a captive-animal performance but not participating in direct interactions. Decide your boundary before you reach the venue rather than letting an upsell make the decision for you.

The attraction itself is structured and timed, so solo attendance is easy. You buy a seat, watch a defined 50-minute show and leave. You are not wandering through an isolated outdoor site for hours.
The practical issue is the return ride. Because the venue is outside the central Pattaya beach corridor, save your hotel pin, keep enough battery and data for a ride-hailing request, and check pickup availability before the show if you are visiting the 17:00 session.
I would also be less inclined to buy VIP solo unless you genuinely want the first-row experience. The strongest advantage of the splash zone is often shared reaction with children, friends or a partner. Regular is a perfectly reasonable solo ticket.
